3. AI and Image Processing
Food Photo Analysis: When you upload a food photo, the image is sent to OpenAI's GPT-4 Vision API for nutritional analysis. OpenAI processes the image according to their own privacy policy and data retention practices. We do not store your food photos on OpenAI's servers longer than necessary for analysis.
AI Nutritionist: Your chat conversations with our AI assistant are processed using OpenAI's GPT-4 API. These conversations may be used to improve our service but are not shared with third parties.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using:
- Firebase (Google Cloud): All user data, meals, exercises, and profiles are stored in Firebase Firestore with industry-standard encryption
- Firebase Storage: Food photos are stored securely in Firebase Cloud Storage

- Authentication: Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text
5. Apple Health Integration
If you grant permission, CalorieBro AI can:
- Read workout data from Apple Health
- Read step count and active energy burned
- Read your body weight
Important: We only READ data from Apple Health. We never write data to Apple Health. You can revoke these permissions at any time through iOS Settings → Privacy → Health.
6. Data Sharing
We do NOT sell or share your personal information with third parties, except:
- Service Providers: OpenAI (for AI analysis), Firebase/Google Cloud (for data storage), and Expo (for app infrastructure)
- Legal Requirements: If required by law or to protect our rights
